Crime and (relatively low) punishment

When someone is killed with a gun, progs seem to emit more outrage toward the firearm as opposed to the person pulling the trigger.

But blaming a car jacking on.....the car???? That's a new one.

Minnesota’s attorney general announced Tuesday he’s launched a civil investigation into Kia and Hyundai’s sale of vehicles that he says don’t have industry-standard anti-theft technology.

Thefts of such vehicles increased 611% in St. Paul and 836% in Minneapolis last year compared with 2021. Thieves have been able to break into Kia and Hyundai vehicles and start them relatively easily and quickly without keys, according to law enforcement.

“Broken glass, stolen cars, shattered lives,” Attorney General Keith Ellison said at a Tuesday news conference. “Thousands of Minnesotans have returned from shopping, school and work only to find that their car has been stolen. … And in tragic cases, those stolen cars have been involved in crimes — crashes that have resulted in death, that have resulted in injury, and they have resulted in great harm.”

Ellison’s office served civil investigative demands on Kia and Hyundai Tuesday, which he says will require them to produce documents and answer questions under oath. The plan is to gather information to determine whether the vehicle manufacturers violated Minnesota’s consumer protection and public nuisance laws “by their actions and inactions,” Ellison said. A possible next step could be a lawsuit.

Rep. Zack Stephenson (DFL-Coon Rapids) also weighed in.

This is almost on par with a rape victim being lectured on how she shouldn't wear such provocative clothing or a person getting mugged in a rough neighborhood being chided for walking around in that area after dark.

Let's face it: this is merely a clever attempt to deflect away attention from criminals (the majority of whom are repeat offenders) who would not be committing these offenses were it not for the light punishment handed down for previous crimes.

Speaking of which, here's a situation where likely repeat offenders were churned out:

It was conveyed to Hennepin County voters last year that this "restorative justice" would be pervasive if Ms. Moriarty were elected HenCo Attorney. She garnered 57% of the vote anyways, with the largest portion coming from high crime areas.

To quote former NYC Mayor Ed Koch - "The people have spoken.....and they will be punished."
