Doogie wonderland.

Since I’m an aspiring radio personality, I always enjoy reading Strib reporter Judd Zulgad’s Friday column on “Broadcast Sports.” I saw an interesting tidbit in today’s report regarding probably one of the worst sports anchors this town has seen since Russell Shimooka. That would be KMSP channel 9 sports guy Jim Rich. At least Shimooka was entertainingly awful. Rich, on the other hand, is about as exciting as dietary fiber.

Anyhow, it appears Rich will be traveling to Sweden later this month for the World Junior Hockey Championships. So who will man the sports anchor desk while Jimmy is gone?

KFAN's Darren (Doogie) Wolfson will sub for Rich on KMSP for several nights during his absence.

Doogie??!!! The impudent pipsqueak on Chad Hartman’s KFAN show? The same kid with the head that looks like a dirty tennis ball and the voice which sounds like Kermit the Frog with a Nordic Minnesota accent?

Believe it or not, I may have to tune in to Channel 9 later this month. It’s kind of like the proverbial train wreck: It looks and sounds pretty ugly but you just can’t turn away.

I'm a born again Christian and very close to Russell Shimooka. I see his talent now and you are plain old mean. I don't know why he was so bad (in your opinion) back then, however, would Jesus say something like that?

I was merely critiquing Shimooka’s ability to deliver sports news. I don’t know Russell personally and didn’t attack him in that mode.

Now, you want mean? You should have heard some of the radio personalities in this town when Shimooka was here. Man, I was being complimentary in comparison.

Wow, search your heart. His ability, huh? And who are you? Have you accomplished or succeeded more in this field? So what if "others" said this or that. Does that justify your insulting or degrading comments? WWJD? I doubt if it's what you do. Oh man, I pray for you. He is doing amazing things now. If only you knew. If only you saw him through God's eyes. You'd certainly shut your mouth!

Again, this was based on what I saw 13-14 years ago. If I saw Shimooka today and observed him doing a good job I would definitely point it out.

And who are you? Have you accomplished or succeeded more in this field?

Well I haven’t accomplished anything in the NFL but I have no problem saying Peyton Manning is far superior to Rex Grossman. In 1993-94, compared to other sportscasters in the Twin Cities, Shimooka was the worst. Again, it was merely an opinion based on what I look for in a TV sports guy.

Get Over It, “Anonymous”. You’re making far too big a deal out of nothing. If you re-read the post, I didn’t give Mr. Shimooka more than five seconds thought when I initially wrote it.

Get over what? Nothing to get over. The only reason I even responded to your comment was your bold declaration of being a Christian. You should watch what you say, you may cause others to stumble. People who boldly declare they lives for Christ should let their lives (and comments) be an example. That's it and that's all. I'm done, God bless you.

OK "Anonymous". You're Russell's wife, aren't you?

Nope.

His wife I believe is an athiest.

OK, this has gone on long enough. I made an insignificant comment about Russell Shimooka TWO-AND-A-HALF FREAKING YEARS AGO and it turned into a Jerry Springer-esque message board.

I will no longer publish any comments to this thread unless it pertains to the essence of my post.

My personal apologies to Russell and Clarisse for the personal attacks launched against them by gutless anonymous commenters. I just thought Russell was a lousy sports guy in 1994, but I would never go so far as to delve into his personal life.

Now, everyone please move on with your lives.

And yes, I did delete all comments (24 of them to be exact) which have come in over the past few months.

Clarisse made a personal request to have certain comments deleted after personal attacks against her. Although, she didn't seem to object to the personal insults towards Russell or any posts complimentary to her.

Just sayin'....
