Box Score of the Week

Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox - June 5, 1929.

----------------------------------------

At 42 years, 225 days old, Chicago's Lena Blackburn pitched 1/3 inning this game, thus becoming the oldest player in MLB history to make his pitching debut.

Blackburn was actually the White Sox manager at the time, but he was appearing as a player in a game for only the second time in 10 years. He had a mediocre playing career as a utility infielder where he was in the big leagues for parts of six seasons from 1910-1919.
