An unlikely alliance

Yes, there's been an uptick of COVID cases in the U.S. of late, specifically having to do with the "Delta variant." Naturally the continued hesitance (or flat out refusal) of some Americans to receive a vaccination is a factor in driving the latest surge, though thankfully we haven't reached as severe a spike as we saw in the spring and winter of 2020.

As with any emotionally charged event in this country these days, there are rampant attempts to politicize this saga. Naturally people are pointing out that regions with the lowest vaccination rates are areas which voted largely for Donald Trump the past two presidential election cycles. As such, it's the same old chanting point of "ZOMG, MAGA-world is going to kill us all." Yeah, just like the repeal of Net Neutrality as well as the passing of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, right?

But I digress.

In a statement released via his Save America PAC on Sunday, Trump said this (emphasis mine):

Joe Biden kept talking about how good of a job he's doing on the distribution of the Vaccine that was developed by Operation Warp Speed or, quite simply, the Trump Administration. He's not doing well at all. He's way behind schedule, and people are refusing to take the Vaccine because they don't trust his Administration, they don't trust the Election results, and they certainly don't trust the Fake News, which is refusing to tell the Truth.

If indeed what Trump is saying is true that people aren't taking the vaccine because of their lack of trust in the Biden administration, then it seems to me there's a simple solution here. That is, Trump himself could make a public statement touting the vaccine and emphasizing why it's vital now more than ever to receive this readily available shot. I mean, I assume that Trump is a staunch believer in this vaccine given he constantly highlights his administration's successful OWS program in addition to his receiving a full dosage of said vaccine. Heck, even Trump's top media lapdog Sean Hannity begged people Monday evening to get vaccinated

But you know what else would be great theater if Trump acquiesced to encouraging Americans to get a COVID vaccine? The Trump-hostile media, who are laying blame of the latest COVID spike at the feet of MAGA-ites and right wing media outlets, becoming philosophically aligned with Trump himself. If these condescending progs are really serious about everyone becoming vaxxed, they can take a serious step forward by putting aside their Trump hatred and acknowledging his contributions to eradicating this pandemic. As we know, Trump having his ego stroked is as vital to him as breathing oxygen.

Make it happen.
