- President Joe Biden and members of his administration have been imploring Americans who have yet to receive a COVID-19 vaccine to get the jab ASAP. That sense of urgency has only heightened in light of the "Delta variant" causing a spike of infections over the past couple of weeks.
One thing I'm certain won't encourage the un-vaxxed to get the shot? A CDC recommendation urging those who have received the vaccine to begin wearing masks indoors. Based off a study which monitored those who received a non-US approved vaccine.
At this point, it's fair to day the Feds have done more damage to the credibility of the vaccine than have anti-vaxxers themselves.
- One year ago today, this story appeared in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
- Lost in the way too many hot takes about U.S. Olympic gymnast Simone Biles opting out of competition is a story of an Iranian defector thumbing his nose at his former homeland.
Iranian defector Saeid Mollaei dedicated his silver medal to Israel after competing in the final of the men’s judo 81-kilogram division on Tuesday at the Tokyo Olympics.
“This medal is also dedicated to Israel and I hope the Israelis appreciate this achievement,” Mollaei said, according to Israel’s Kan public broadcaster.
Mollaei, who represents Mongolia, claimed his first Olympic medal two years after leaving his native Iran after being ordered to lose in the semifinals of the 2019 world championships in Tokyo to avoid facing Israel’s Sagi Muki in the final.
This form of protest against a country like Iran is orders of magnitude more courageous than the obligatory "taking a knee" that many American athletes engage in.
