Since the existence of the NFL's Redskins (Boston, then Washington), there had been 16 Presidential elections involving an incumbent prior to the 2004 contest. The prevailing trend was the result of the last Redskins' home game prior to the election determined the winner of the Presidency. If the Redskins won, the incumbent won. If Redskins lost, the challenger prevailed.
On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers defeated Washington 28-14 in D.C. That foretold a John Kerry victory, right? Ahh... the 2004 sports season. We witnessed things we had never seen before.

No team has EVER rallied from a 3-0 deficit. The Yanks are on the way to another AL pennant and a berth in the World Series

No matter how good the Red Sox have ever been, they always find a way to break our hearts.

The year that was...
George Bush defeats Massachusetts Democrat in Presidential election.
In baseball, a Minnesota Twins left-handed pitcher wins the AL Cy Young award, edging out a Boston Red Sox right-hander.
Hmmm. Looks to me like some pretty bold predictions for the year 2004. Bush beats Kerry in the Presidential race. Twins' lefty Johan Santana finishes ahead of Red Sox righty Curt Schilling to win the AL Cy Young award. Don't you want to wait until this year is over before compiling "The Year that was 2004"?
Predictions? Why, I am merely doing a "year in review" for the year 1988. George H. W. Bush defeated former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis in the Presidential race.
Meanwhile, in Major League baseball, Twins' lefty Frank Viola wins the 1988 AL Cy Young award with Red Sox righty Roger Clemens finishing second.
There you have it! Bush defeats Massachusetts Democrat for the Presidency. A Minnesota Twins lefty wins the Cy Young award.
