I don't know if you've heard, but House majority leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) has "ethical problems". These charges involve some alleged illegal campaign contributions to a committee started by DeLay.
The charges levied against DeLay are under investigation, but that's not good enough I guess. Apparently those who are a part of the Mainstream Media and other Liberal establishments believe Mr. DeLay should cease and desist with his duties as Majority Leader and member of Congress. Better yet, Mr. DeLay, go ahead and also allow slurring and slandering of your name.
-It all started with the Terri Schiavo fiasco. DeLay, along with Seante majority leader Bill Frist (R-TN), put forth a valiant effort to uphold the Republican platform for the sanctity of life and allow Mrs Schiavo to live. Ah, but it was all just a front. According to Maureen Dowd, NY Times liberal columnist (the equivalent of saying "Catholic Pope"), DeLay was merely trying to "distract from his ethical problems."
-On the season finale of the NBC drama "Law & Order: Criminal Intent", an unflattering reference was made using DeLay's name. In the episode, police are frustrated by a lack of clues in the fictional murders of two judges. The allegation is right-wing extremists were responsible leading one officer to quip "Maybe we should put out an APB for somebody in a Tom DeLay t-shirt. " I guess because Tom DeLay vowed to hold judges accountable for their perverted interpretation of the law, someone might take his statement too seriously and resort to extreme measures. Nonetheless, Mr DeLay was more than a little incensed. Why he even had the audacity to write a letter to Jeff Zucker, NBC Universal Television Group President. "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf chimed in by saying DeLay succeeded in "switching the spotlight from his own problems to an episode of a TV show."
-But the ultimate absurdity has to go to resident lunatic (and new DNC chairman) Howard Dean. In a May 14 speech, Dean exclaimed that " ....Tom DeLay ought to go back to Houston, where he can serve his jail sentence down there courtesy of the Texas taxpayers. " Since ol' Howie is a Doctor and not an Attorney, maybe we ought to cut him some slack. He must not realize that one does not go to jail if one hasn't been convicted of a crime. Remember, it was Dean back in December 2003 saying we shouldn't pre-judge Osama bin Laden. Yet DeLay seems to be held to a different standard than an International terrorist. When this fact was presented to Dr. Dean on his May 22 appearance on "NBC News' Meet the Press", the good doctor defended himself by saying "I don't think I'm pre-judging (DeLay)." So let me get this straight: Tom DeLay hasn't been convicted of a crime but Howard Dean believes he should go to jail. Yet, that's not pre-judging? No wonder the Liberals want to maintain control of the judiciary.
I sure hope Tom DeLay is never in the precarious position of having to save a child from being hit by a runaway truck. It would just be another venue for him to distract from his ethical problems.

Freedom isn't free.
William Wallace: I AM William Wallace! And I see a whole army of my country men, here, in defiance of tyranny. You've come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What will you do with that freedom? Will you fight?
Soldier: Against that? No, we'll run, and we'll live.
William Wallace: Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take away our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!
From the movie "Braveheart"
On Saturday, March 19, the Anti-War kooks decided to gather in recognition of the 2-year anniversary of the Iraq war.
As the leader of the MN chapter of Protest Warrior, a conservative counter-protest organization, I was on the "front lines" in defending the notion of Freedom and Democracy in the Middle East. Naturally, I was met with strong resistance. Oh, the kooks' knee-jerk arguments were perpetuated:
-"Where are the weapons?"
-"Bush lied!"
-"No blood for oil!"
-"The war was paid for by taxing the poor!"
-Finally, the ever timeless "Give peace a chance!"
We all certainly remember the purple fingers displayed by the Iraqis upon voting in their first free election. This will be the enduring symbol of what we all hope is a successful Democracy. Naturally, we at PW had to remind the anti-war crowd of this monumental event. We took purple, foam "We're #1" hands and painted them all white, with the exception of the finger tip. We at least expected some retort like, "Well, I'm glad they were able to vote and are rid of Saddam Hussein, BUT...." Leave it to us to believe that a leftist kook is capable of having even a scintilla of rational thought. Instead, the prevailing rationale was the mere chance of Freedom and Democracy is not worth the 1000+ American soldiers perishing or the loss of several thousand Iraqi citizens. "Oh, I get it," I remarked to the crowd. "You Liberals love to spew your twisted ideology because you're free to do so. But if any other country desires Freedom........"
It was then I was struck, literally and figuratively.
Literally, when I was pushed, spat on and verbally accosted by a leftist kook.
Figuratively, when I realized that the aforementioned anti-war kooks have no concept of the sacrifice required to both establish and preserve Liberty.
Think about it! We lost upwards of 400,000 American soldiers during World War II. It's that enormous sacrifice which allows us all to enjoy the Freedoms and Liberties we have today. Because many of our great WWII veterans are passing on, we take for granted the tremendous price they paid to preserve Freedom and Liberty. The concept the leftist kooks need to grasp is under the Hussein regime, Iraqis signed their own death sentence if they dare oppose their leaders. Even with Saddam out of power there was still tremendous risk when Iraqis went to the polls in late January. Yet oppressed people who yearn for freedom are willing to put their lives on the line. The Iraqis have seen a first hand account of the carnage in the effort to instill a democracy.
As a result, there weren't a lot of voting Iraqis with their hands in their pockets on Iraq election day.
Soldier: Against that? No, we'll run, and we'll live.

Vikes say "No Mas", so No Moss!
After seven breathtaking and exasperating seasons, Randy Moss is no longer a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
The Vikings have officially shipped Moss to the Oakland Raiders for LB Napoleon Harris, the Raiders' 1st round (seventh overall) and seventh round draft picks.
I believe we can not fairly judge this deal until we see what Harris produces on the field. In addition, the Vikings have a more prominent draft position as well as approximately $30 million of salary cap space. Obviously, that is a discussion for another day.
While we will all miss Moss' big play ability, we will strain our rotator cuffs waving goodbye to the shenanigans on and off the field.
-1999 Divisional playoffs: Squirts an on-field official with water after a disputed call in the 49-37 loss to the St Louis Rams.
-2000 NFC Championship Game: Approximately two hours before the matchup with the NY Giants for the right to go to the Super Bowl, Randy was as focused as a magnifying glass on frying ants, right? Nah. How could Moss possibly concentrate on a game of such magnitude when he can't have his buddies come on the field? Randy proceeds to berate security personnel for not allowing his pals to trespass. Moss is so preoccupied with the snub that he doesn't bother to put forth much effort in the game. The Vikes are edged, 41-0.
-2001 season: After a tough, hard fought 48-17 loss in Philadelphia, Randy was in a rather surly mood. After boarding the team bus, Moss verbally abused a corporate sponsor who unknowingly sat in the seat normally reserved for Randy (an incident which invoked an absurd Randy Moss-Rosa Parks comparison by Minneapolis "journalist" Larry Fitzgerald).
The infamous declaration of "I play when I want to play" is first uttered. This is in response to an inquiry of why he performs so well on Monday Night Football. Moss backs up that statement six nights later (The Sunday Night game on ESPN) with a half-hearted effort in a home loss to the Chicago Bears. What's most shameful was he knew to how much scrutiny he would be subjected after his asinine comments were blasted across Sports Nation. No Matter. He still dogged it in prime time.
-2002 season: The year of "Moss vs the meter maid". Moss took an illegal right turn in downtown Minneapolis then refuses to stop when directed by the officer. While I feel that was overblown, what could not be overlooked is the trace of marijuana found in his ashtray.
-2004 season: Walks off the field with two seconds remaining in regular season finale loss in Washington. Is privately accosted by teammate Matt Birk in the locker room afterwards, an incident where Moss later bristled and stated he didn't care what Birk said.
But the final coup d'etat was his comments regarding the mock "mooning" he performed after his game clinching TD in the playoff game at Green Bay. While the end zone "celebration" itself was certainly overblown by the moral authority that is Fox Network (see such family fun shows as "Temptation Island"), what could not be ignored was Moss' defiance regarding the incident. His insinuation that his next celebration would be even more vulgar had to be the final straw. If you continually say on one hand that you have Super Bowl aspirations yet perpetually undermine what the team attempts to put together on the field, we as fans received mixed signals.
One caveat while playing in Oakland, Randy: If you decide to leave a little early, watch out for the flying batteries.

Emptying the desk drawer in my mind
Some random thoughts as we await Spring:
-It looks as though Arizona businessman Reggie Fowler will be the next owner of the Minnesota Vikings. Pending approval, he will be the first black owner of an NFL franchise. However, the only color that's relevant here is GREEN! That said, when a few inaccuracies were noted in Mr. Fowler's bio, it was only a matter of days before the race card was enacted by Syl Jones.
-Have the Democrats learned yet that you do not win elections with negativity and anger? To answer that, I give you a quote from newly appointed Democratic National Committee chairman, Howard Dean:
"I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for, but I admire their discipline and their organization."
-The National Hockey League officially cancelled its 2004-'05 regular season. What's sad is the NHL reported only a slight decrease in attendance for the year.
-Listeners of radio show pundit Rush Limbaugh (a/k/a "Dittoheads") are consistently touted as "mind-numbed robots" who have an inability to "think for themselves". Since I have yet to hear a satisfactory answer, I will ask again: WHAT POSSIBLE ULTERIOR MOTIVE COULD THERE BE FOR DECLARING ALLEGIANCE TO RUSH LIMBAUGH? Now Anna Nicole Smith marrying an 87-year old billionaire could reek of an ulterior motive. But when Rush began his program in August 1988, who was he? A thrice fired radio personality who grew up in Missouri and didn't finish college. Did it ever occur to anyone that he struck a chord with listeners by eloquently outlining the Conservative agenda? People started to shout, "HEY!! That's exactly how I feel! I just didn't have the words to properly convey my thoughts!" That and the fact Rush pulls down about $30 million annually tells people he can take his ordinary background and become a huge success. THAT is the America I live in, John Edwards.

FOUR score and six years of sports and politics.
Since the existence of the NFL's Redskins (Boston, then Washington), there had been 16 Presidential elections involving an incumbent prior to the 2004 contest. The prevailing trend was the result of the last Redskins' home game prior to the election determined the winner of the Presidency. If the Redskins won, the incumbent won. If Redskins lost, the challenger prevailed.
On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers defeated Washington 28-14 in D.C. That foretold a John Kerry victory, right? Ahh... the 2004 sports season. We witnessed things we had never seen before.
--When the Boston Red Sox fell behind the New York Yankees, 3 games to 0 in baseball's ALCS, what was the prevailing wisdom?
No team has EVER rallied from a 3-0 deficit. The Yanks are on the way to another AL pennant and a berth in the World Series
--The Boston Red Sox moved on to the World Series, where they hadn't won since 1918. Again, the pundits spoke.
No matter how good the Red Sox have ever been, they always find a way to break our hearts.
The Final results:
A historic rally by the Red Sox in the ALCS, four straight wins
A dominant performance by the Sox in the World Series against the St Louis Cardinals, four game sweep.
George W Bush, re-elected President. FOUR MORE YEARS!!

The year that was...
George Bush defeats Massachusetts Democrat in Presidential election.
In baseball, a Minnesota Twins left-handed pitcher wins the AL Cy Young award, edging out a Boston Red Sox right-hander.
Hmmm. Looks to me like some pretty bold predictions for the year 2004. Bush beats Kerry in the Presidential race. Twins' lefty Johan Santana finishes ahead of Red Sox righty Curt Schilling to win the AL Cy Young award. Don't you want to wait until this year is over before compiling "The Year that was 2004"?
Predictions? Why, I am merely doing a "year in review" for the year 1988. George H. W. Bush defeated former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis in the Presidential race.
Meanwhile, in Major League baseball, Twins' lefty Frank Viola wins the 1988 AL Cy Young award with Red Sox righty Roger Clemens finishing second.
There you have it! Bush defeats Massachusetts Democrat for the Presidency. A Minnesota Twins lefty wins the Cy Young award.
The year in review, 1988.
The events to occur in 2004!!
