30 years ago today.....

.....the Minnesota Timberwolves were as good as gone.

I recall being apathetic about this transaction simply because the Wolves were absolutely non-competitive in what had been a 5-year existence up to that point. Their average record over that span was a pathetic 21-61, with their best record in that window being 29-53. They were already on their third head coach in five seasons.

I have to admit that in the post Kevin Garnett era (KG was traded after the 2006-07 season), I was so disgusted with the perpetual dysfunction of the Timberwolves franchise that I often lamented the New Orleans deal falling through (read the fascinating account of that whole saga here). But given the success the Wolves have had in these past few years in particular, I now embrace every moment this team is alive in the postseason.

As Wolves podcaster and superfan Kyle Theige has been saying throughout this season....."We've come a long way, friends."
