Athletics' owner Charlie Finley signed Negro League legend Satchel Paige to pitch in one game late in the 1965 season. At age 59 years, 2 months and 18 days, Paige was the oldest pitcher ever to appear in a MLB game. Despite this signing being little more than a publicity stunt, Paige retired nine of the ten Red Sox batters he faced.
