Sandman enters Hall of Fame

On Tuesday, there were four new members voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Starting pitchers Roy Halladay and Mike Mussina, designated hitter Edgar Martinez and indisputably the greatest relief pitcher of all time, Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees. And Rivera also made history by becoming the first player to be a unanimous selection.

Before Rivera, the highest vote percentage to gain Hall entry belonged to Ken Griffey Jr. in 2016, when he received 99.3 percent (named on 437 of 440 ballots).

"This was just beyond my imagination," Rivera said on a conference call with reporters. "Just to be considered a Hall of Famer is an honor, but to be unanimous is just amazing."

As if his couldn't have been more awesome, Rivera received congratulations and well wishes from perhaps the greatest metal band of all time.





Upon Rivera entering a game in the ninth inning, the Yankee Stadium P.A. system would blast Metallica's tune Enter Sandman. Rather appropriate given Rivera coming in with a lead was essentially like saying good night.
