Foot put together a brilliant piece a few months ago entitled “Rhetoric that needs to die. Now.” If I may, I would like to put together a list of my own. Well, actually a list of one. It pertains to the Major League Baseball playoffs.
So what if the Red Sox are down 3 games to 1 in the ALCS. They rallied from down 3-1 last year to win the AL pennant and eventually the World Series.
The difference this year is:
• No Curt Schilling
• No Manny Ramirez
• No Mike Lowell
• Josh Beckett (6-2 with a 1.73 ERA in his two prior postseasons) still looks to be bothered by a strained oblique. He has an 11.57 ERA in two playoff starts this year.
• David Ortiz looks like the stiff the Twins jettisoned after the 2002 season. He is hitting .161 with ZERO homeruns and 1 RBI in eight playoff games (including .071 and 0 RBIs in the LCS).
It ain’t happenin’ this year, Red Sox Nation. The faster you accept that, the quicker you can shift your focus to the soon-to-be 8-8 Patriots.
