No surprise: Olbermann, Matthews out as MSNBC "anchors".

Perhaps ultra-lefty Bill Maher's take was the final straw.

Whatever the case, the insufferable Keith Olbermann and Chris "I get this thrill up my leg" Matthews will no longer anchor MSNBC's 2008 election coverage.

The...ahem..."impartial" David Gregory looks to be taking over.

As I was leaving the GOP convention last Thursday, Olby was kvetching over the Republicans showing graphic footage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, thus causing an emotional reaction from him. He also went on to claim that if his network showed that much coverage of said tragedy, the GOP would "eviscerate" his network. Never mind that Olby & Co. themselves demagogued the attacks by parading out the 9/11 widows during the '04 and '06 elections (especially those widows who were anti-Bush).

On the other hand, Matthews personified the phrase "in the tank." His proclamation that hearing Barack Obama speak gave him a thrill up his leg would have been hung around his neck this entire election season. In a July appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Matthews stopped just short of making a plea to the country to not be racist and vote for Obama. Then upon the conclusion of Obama's August 28 speech at the Democratic National Convention, Matthews basically told his critics to go to hell when conveying how much Obama inspires him.

Truth be told, I'll kind of miss Olby & Thrill boy. They provide a lot of fodder and entertainment for us political junkies.

  1. Scrappleface: Reid Probe: Who Outed MSNBC’s Olbermann, Matthews?

(2008-09-08) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, today called for a full investigation into who outed MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, after the two lost their jobs as anchors of the news network’s election coverage.

“Not only does the outing of Olbermann and Matthews take them off the front lines, where they had been working to keep our democracy safe,” said Sen. Reid, “but now that their cover is blown, other covert agents in the mainstream media have to constantly look over their shoulders. A chill wind is blowing across our land.”

  2. This has to be a joke......There is no way Sen. Reid is serious! If he is kidding, then he is NOT funny.

If he is serious, then he must think the American people are stupid.

  3. Yes, honey, it is a joke. I know for a fact that you don't read Scrappleface. If you did, you would recognize the humor.

I can see how one might believe Sen. Reid would say such things. After all, the Democrats are self-parodying.

  4. Sorry for the confusion. <:~D Scrappleface's coverage at the National Republican Convention was fun, especially his participation in the CNN Bloggers Panel.

BTW, I recommend reading his response to Obama's clumsy pig/lipstick schtick.
