#4 in purple?

UPDATE: FAVRE ASKS PACKERS FOR HIS RELEASE!

UPDATE II:....BUT PACKERS WILL NOT GRANT IT.

------------------------------------------------------------

(Minnesota) is the perfect landing spot for Favre. The Vikings are the best team in need of a quarterback. The addition of Favre would make Minnesota an instant Super Bowl contender.

OK, I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t want to see Brett Favre in a Vikings uniform. As much as I’ve hammered the Packers over the years, I have always held Favre in the highest esteem. I mean, never missing a start at QB in 275 games (including playoffs)? Unbelievable!! Not to mention he holds practically every key quarterbacking record (all-time wins, yardage, touchdown passes, etc).

With the QB position being the only uncertainty for the Vikes going into 2008, signing Favre would be an ideal move.

I realize that Favre’s one and only reason for returning for an 18th season would be to win another Super Bowl. But like all elite athletes he has an ego. Fair or unfair, Favre would love to stick it to the organization that didn’t welcome him back with open arms.

There has also been discussion that the Packers will grant Favre his release so he can scratch the proverbial “itch” to play football, but only on one condition: that he does not sign with a rival NFC North team. However, according to an agreement between the NFL players union and the owners, no such conditional releases can be proposed. In fact, team management can not even broach the subject.

So if Favre wants to play but the Packers insist on moving ahead with the Aaron Rodgers era, then the organization has only two options: trade Favre or release him.

Either way, this makes for an untenable public relations situation come training camp.

  2. Two choices? Not so much. Choice three is let him compete for the job. He either starts or rides the bench. They do NOT have to let him go. Now whether any of the brass in Packer-land get out of the Lambeau parking lot alive if they do that is another story. Plus, he's scheduled to make something like 6 bajillion dollars next year.

  3. Caruso,

There is no way Green Bay would let Favre ride the bench. Like you said, it would be horrible for public relations, and Green Bay would never pay that much money on a 'back-up'. Besides, how could Favre lose to Rodgers?

Great job, Brad. I would like to see Favre in a Viking uni as well.

Which ain't gonna happen if you listen to the Packers brass.

From what I've gathered, half the fans are on management's side on this one.

Plus, he's scheduled to make something like 6 bajillion dollars next year.

Another good reason to cut him.

  6. I'm not sure how it's actually going to play out, but I'm reasonably certain it won't end well. Favre's greatest attribute has been his almost unreal durability. Wanna bet he's not in football shape? And wanna bet that if he tries to play, he ends up getting carted off, whether it's at Lambeau, the Dome or some other place?

Every time I think about it, I just see Johnny Unitas wearing that powder-blue Chargers uniform. It's not good.

  7. Great take, Mark! No matter who Favre is playing for, that's the last thing I want to see.
